Where is Swan's Island
Swan's Island is a 6 mile ferry ride from Acadia National Park and Bass Harbor on Mount Desert Island.

Size

Swan's Island is very irregularly shaped, with deep sheltered coves cutting into spruce clad hills. The island is approximately 7000 acres, with over twelve miles of paved roads and many more miles of unimproved roads. There are about 350 residents year-round, with a summer population of at least 1000.

Swan's Island has three small villages, Atlantic, Minturn and Swan's Island Village, where the Wiseman House is located.
How to get to Swan's Island
A 17 car ferry makes six daily round trips in the summer and four daily round trips off season departing from Bass Harbor. The six mile crossing takes about 30 minutes.

Stores
There is one small general store on the island, but the selection is limited. You cannot purchase alcohol on the island, but you may bring it with you.
There are several places to buy lobsters, fish and other seafood. Freshly caught lobsters can be purchased from the Swan's Island Fisherman's Co-op a short walk from the Wiseman House.

Restaurants
There are usually one or two small restaurants, coffee shops, and "take-outs" operating during the summer season.

Post Office
There is a full-service post office on the island, which is open 6 days a week.

Churches
There are four active churches on the Island: Advent Christian (Minturn), Baptist (Atlantic), Church of God (Atlantic) and Methodist (Swans Island Village).
